AUTOMODS PROJECT CAR :: |
:: PROJECT RACER |
 |
| As a child, ever dreamt of owning your own bike? Remembered the first time you saw that Toy Car you wanted so much, how you longed to hold it in your hands and take it home? Remember how excited you would get on these occasions?
Well that was our flashback when we saw our ideal Racing Machine! We here at Automods have been toggling back and fourth about a project car for some time now. A few opportunities have presented themselves for us to purchase project cars but we never found the one that suit us best, until now! The 1990-1991 Honda Civic has been one of our favorites for years! So when we got the call about this car we jumped at this grand opportunity. We went to see it on the same day!
The car has been around for a long time now and is well known. It was being built by Cleavy but caught our attention after it was moved to Honda Jam.

Getting Down to Business
We drove up at Honda Jam and there it was; soon to be the big racing machine. We hopped out of our car with camera in hand. After taking a few pictures of the car and attracting some attention to ourselves, we were told by our inside source that they had the engine also, a H22A!! Now this was the real sh%t….there was no way we were gonna leave this racing machine. We investigated some more and information was that the engine was already built to be boosted (Turbo charged). This just got us more excited about the project.
On inspection of the car we viewed an almost completed roll cage missing only a few components but it was done well. The cage’s steel was rusting from exposure to the natural elements, however, over time this is an easy fix.
Ok this is interesting…….a missing floor! The car looked like a Flintstone must have had their way with it. The flooring was removed to construct the roll cage but this was a small concern for us. We started scrutinizing the body of the car. Only a few minor rust spots were evident. These were under the roof and also other areas on the rare of the body. Walking around the body of the car we could not help but notice that the structure of a car its age was very well preserved. As you know in regards to rust what meets the eyes is not always the case. So we will leave the rest of the body for later judgment. |

Giving Candy to a Baby
After leaving the housing site for our soon to be Project Car, our minds were fully consumed by the exciting venture we were about to take on. The Adrenaline rush was on!! Let’s say we spent the night speaking of its possibilities! Can you say putting the horse before the cart? We could not help it, come on now could you?
We were thinking about the car like a kid on the night before the amusement park trip. Think of the rides!
Signed, Sealed & Delivered!
The next day never came fast enough, we negotiated the price. We came to a very lucrative settlement with the previous owner. In the process we negotiated a sponsorship deal so both parties came out of the negotiations happy. “Bung Bang” Automods first project car!!!! When we got the title in our hands I snapped to the top of the podium collecting the race championship trophy. “I want to thank Jesus, my parents the race team…” Snap back to reality oops there goes gravity. |

Move Day
Arrangements were made to have the car removed as soon as possible as it was attracting many buying offers. We quickly completed our business and got the car moved no more than a day after.

Engine Pick Up.
We went to get the engine even though we did not have proper transportation. We heard a few big offers were being made for the engine and we were taking no chances. I drove my personal car to go get the engine. Think of a 2002 Toyota Rav4 with a small trunk space. On seeing the size of the engine I thought “damn”! Even if it doesn’t fit we will make it somehow. It’s now time to see how far back those Rav4 seats can go.
The engine inside the Rav4. The engine fits with little space left
A tight fit but it works for me. The car looked so much lower with the weight of the engine in it. It felt like I was dragging a trunk. |
