On the morning of Thursday September 7, 2006 approximately 6:45am my cell phone rang. I was busy preparing for the work day so I did not get a chance to answer it. After checking my missed calls to see who it was, calling me at this time of the morning, I found the number I saw quite strange. Being curious, I returned the call. The number rang and rang and then the person answered saying "Damian seh him crash and the car flipped". "Aaaaah what?!!!" After regaining myself and asking if he was ok, I thought to myself "Awwww, not Envy". Pardon me if I seemed more concerned about the Automods' project car that was not yet completed. So after ascertaining where the accident took place, I proceeded to "speeding" up my morning preparations so I could head to the hospital as soon as possible.
I tried not to rush, but it was the hardest thing to not speed to the hospital knowing that my friend and brother was injured and I didn't know the extent of his injuries.
Even before I got there my phone started ringing nonstop with people telling me they had passed "Envy" on it's roof on Ensom Boulevard and other persons asking me about the accident. While driving to the hospital everything seemed to move in slow motion. All the vehicles on the road just seemed as if they were trying to stop me for some reason or another. Holding back from flooring it and going around everything, I just prayed along the way that he was ok.
Damn, not Spanish Town Hospital again been here one too many times for accidents! "Going to the emergency section" I told the security guards at the gate. You can only imagine the feeling going through my mind and body at this time. For all my "tugs" "RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR", you are just as human as anyone else at such a moment like this. No "Man a tugs" thing; my "tugs" was inside this damned place where people always seem to die.
The air went dead with silence as I approached the grill; no pun intended. Enquiring if I can enter the Casualty and Emergency section, I was told by the security guard at the grill I would need to go around to another section to get in. After walking, almost at a jog, I got around to a section of the hospital that looked like it had been built and not changed since the last Word War. I asked for a patient that just came in from a car accident stating his full name. "Are you a relative?" the guard ask me."YES!" I replied, thinking, "Can't you see the resemblance?". He pulled his keys from his pocket and proceed to unlock the padlock holding the rustic looking grilled gate together.
After shouting to another security guard down the empty and depressed looking passageway, a female security guard walked towards me saying "You can't go in right now, we have a critical emergency". My thought was "What the @#%$ this lady telling me". She continued to speak, and slowly her voice came back to me saying "We just got an old man dat get lik by a chi chi bus' (JUTC Bus". I felt like Bobby's wife then because I was still waiting to exhale. After a 20-35 minute wait, the hospital was just becoming the worse place in the world to be. Friends were arriving by the minute, anxiously awaiting to hear if he was ok.
Then here he comes down the passageway, smiling from ear to ear like everything is fine. This nigga had nothing wrong with him but his right hand being swollen from when the car rolled, and he used it to brace himself. After asking him "Yuh criss?", the next question was "What happened?"
